How to Auto-Post Your Blog to Social Media With RSS
Share every new blog post on social media automatically, without it looking robotic.
Every time you publish a blog post, sharing it on several social networks takes time. An RSS feed lets automation tools notice new posts and share them for you โ so every article gets at least a basic share, even on busy days.
What you need
- An RSS feed of your blog โ most platforms create one automatically. Find yours with how to find the RSS feed of a website, or create one with the RSS feed generator.
- An automation or scheduling tool that supports RSS triggers. Many social schedulers and automation services can watch a feed.
- Connected social accounts โ pages and profiles you manage.
Step 1: Check your feed
Open the feed and confirm it includes the title, link, summary and ideally an image for each post. Good Open Graph tags on each post make shared links display properly โ see what Open Graph tags are.
Step 2: Create the automation
- Choose "new item in RSS feed" as the trigger.
- Choose the action: create a post on a page or profile.
- Map fields: post title, summary and link.
- Test with your latest post.
Step 3: Format posts for each platform
- LinkedIn: a professional one-line takeaway plus the link.
- Facebook: a question or hook plus the link.
- X: short, punchy text and relevant hashtags.
- Pinterest: a tall image and keyword-rich description.
Some tools let you add a fixed intro text or hashtags per platform.
Step 4: Add tracking
Add UTM parameters to the links so you can see social traffic in analytics, following our UTM guide for social media.
Avoid robotic feeds
- Do not rely only on automation โ add personal posts and replies too.
- Delay automated posts slightly so you can edit if needed.
- Re-share evergreen posts manually with new angles later.
- Do not auto-post to groups or communities where promotion is not welcome.
A worked example
A New Zealand marketing consultant often forgot to share her own articles. She connected her blog feed to a scheduler that posted each new article to her LinkedIn page and Facebook page an hour after publishing, with a UTM-tagged link. Each week she added one personal post about an older article. Social referrals to the blog roughly doubled over three months.
Feeds can also power newsletters โ see RSS feed to email newsletter.
Check your automation monthly
Feeds and connections break silently โ a changed password, an expired token or a feed URL change. Once a month, confirm the latest post was shared everywhere it should be, and reconnect any account that has stopped posting.
