How to Fix Price Mismatch in Google Merchant Center
Find out why your feed price and page price disagree, and fix the cause for good.
A price mismatch happens when the price in your product feed differs from the price Google finds on your landing page. Google wants shoppers to see accurate prices, so mismatched items can be disapproved, and repeated problems can lead to account warnings.
Common causes
- Feed not updated after a price change on the website.
- Sales starting or ending on the site before the feed changes. See how to add a sale price.
- Currency differences โ the page shows a converted price or a different default currency for Google's crawler.
- Tax display โ prices with tax on the page but without in the feed (or the reverse), where the country requires one way.
- Variants โ the landing page shows a different variant's price by default.
- Structured data on the page showing an old or different price.
- Caching โ a CDN or page cache serving an old price.
- Location-based pricing that shows Google a different price from shoppers.
How to diagnose
- Open Merchant Center diagnostics and note example products.
- Compare the feed price, the visible page price and the price in the page's Product structured data.
- Check the price shown for the exact variant linked in the feed.
- Test the page without cookies or from a different country to see what Google might see.
Validate feed values with the Merchant Center feed validator.
Fixes
- Update the feed more often โ at least daily, or whenever prices change.
- Use sale dates so feed and site change at the same time.
- Link to the right variant with a URL that preselects it.
- Keep structured data in sync with the visible price. See product schema for ecommerce.
- Clear caches after price changes.
- Show the target country's currency for each country you advertise in.
Automatic item updates
Merchant Center can automatically update prices and availability from your page's structured data when it detects a mismatch. It reduces disapprovals but is not a replacement for an accurate feed.
After fixing
Re-fetch the feed and wait for Google to recrawl. Disapprovals clear as items are re-checked. If your account received a warning, request a review once everything is fixed. Read how to fix Merchant Center errors.
A worked example
A US electronics shop saw dozens of price mismatches every week. Its product pages defaulted to the cheapest variant, while the feed linked each variant separately. Adding variant parameters to the feed links so the right option was preselected โ and switching the feed to update every six hours โ cleared the problem within a week.
Prevent it next time
Schedule feed updates to run soon after any price import, and test one product after every sale, theme update or currency change.
