How to Create a WhatsApp Business Catalog (and Share It)
Set up a WhatsApp Business catalog with products and collections, and share it with customers.
A WhatsApp Business catalog is a mini shop window inside WhatsApp. Customers can browse your products, see prices and photos, and ask about an item without leaving the chat. For small shops that sell mainly through WhatsApp, it saves sending the same photos again and again.
What you need
- The WhatsApp Business app (not regular WhatsApp) with your business profile completed.
- Clear product photos and short descriptions.
- Prices, if you want to show them (optional).
Step 1: Open the catalog
In the WhatsApp Business app, open business tools (from the menu or settings) and choose Catalog. The exact menu names can vary between Android and iPhone versions.
Step 2: Add products
Tap to add a new item and fill in:
- Images โ up to several per item; use clean backgrounds and good light.
- Name โ clear and specific: "Cotton Kurti โ Blue, Size M".
- Price โ optional, but helps customers decide.
- Description โ material, size, what is included.
- Link โ the product page on your website, if you have one.
- Item code โ your own SKU to identify orders easily.
Products may be reviewed against WhatsApp's commerce policies before they appear, and some product types are not allowed.
Step 3: Organise collections
Group items into collections such as "New arrivals", "Under โน499" or "Festive wear" so customers find things quickly.
Step 4: Share your catalog
- Use the share option in the catalog to copy a link to the whole catalog or a single item.
- Send item links in chats when customers ask about a product.
- Post them in your status, social profiles and website.
For a general "chat with us" button, create a WhatsApp link with a pre-filled message using the WhatsApp link generator. Read how to create a WhatsApp link for business.
Keep it up to date
Hide or remove items that are out of stock and update prices promptly. An outdated catalog leads to disappointing conversations.
Measure where enquiries come from
If you link to WhatsApp from your website, ads or emails, use separate links or tracked pages so you know which source works best. See how to get more WhatsApp enquiries.
A worked example
A home baker kept sending photo albums to every customer who asked "What cakes do you have?". They created a catalog with 25 cakes in four collections โ birthday, eggless, cupcakes and custom โ each with a price range and size options. Now the first reply is a catalog link, and customers arrive at the chat already knowing what they want.
Photo tips for catalog items
- Shoot in daylight near a window rather than under yellow bulbs.
- Use a plain wall or sheet as background.
- Show the product from the front first, then details and a size reference.
- Keep colours true โ customers return items that look different from the photo.
- Use the same style for every product so the catalog looks professional.
Good photos reduce questions in chat, because customers can see texture, size and colour without asking.
