How to Analyze Competitor Products, Pricing and Listings

Choose the right competitors, record the details that matter and turn what you learn into better listings and pricing decisions.

Shoppers compare. Before buying, many open three or four tabs: your product, a marketplace listing and a couple of competitor shops. Competitor product analysis means doing that comparison first, deliberately, so your listing wins it.

Step 1: Choose the right competitors

Compare against the products shoppers actually see next to yours:

  • Shops that appear in Google Shopping and search results for your main product phrases.
  • Top listings on the marketplaces your customers use.
  • Direct competitors your customers mention.

Three to five comparable products per category is enough.

Step 2: Record the same details for each

Use a simple table with one row per product:

  • Title โ€” structure and the attributes it mentions.
  • Price โ€” including discounts, and delivery cost.
  • Images โ€” number, quality, lifestyle shots, videos.
  • Brand and key specs โ€” size, material, warranty.
  • Rating and review count โ€” and what reviewers praise or complain about.
  • Delivery and returns โ€” speed, cost, return window.
  • Extras โ€” bundles, free gifts, size guides, FAQs.

Step 3: Read the pricing properly

Do not simply match the lowest price. Compare total cost to the customer (price plus delivery), what is included, and perceived quality. If you are more expensive, the listing must show why: better material, longer warranty, faster delivery, local support. If you are cheaper, make sure your listing does not look lower quality because of weak photos or thin descriptions.

Step 4: Mine competitor reviews

Reviews are free market research. Look for repeated complaints ("runs small", "lid leaks", "colour different from photo"). If your product does not have that problem, say so clearly in your description. If it does, fix it or set expectations honestly.

Step 5: Find listing gaps

  • Do competitors show sizes or dimensions you omit?
  • Do they have more or better images?
  • Do their titles include attributes yours lack?
  • Do they answer questions your page leaves open?

Each gap is a task. Improve titles with the product title optimizer and descriptions with the product description generator.

Step 6: Repeat regularly

Prices, promotions and listings change. Recheck your main products monthly and before big sale seasons such as Diwali or year-end sales.

Speed it up

Collecting this data by hand from several tabs is tedious. The free competitor product research tool pulls the title, price, image, brand and rating from up to three competitor product pages and shows them side by side. Read how to compare competitor product pages side by side for a walkthrough.

Stay ethical

Learn from competitors, but do not copy their descriptions or photos โ€” that infringes their rights and gives you duplicate content. Do not post fake reviews on their listings or yours. Win with a better product page, not by undermining someone else's.
