How to Create a Google Merchant Center Feed Without a Plugin
Build a Merchant Center-ready XML feed from your store URL, review it, host it and set Google to fetch it automatically.
Big e-commerce platforms come with feed apps. But if your shop runs on a custom-built site, a lightweight CMS or a platform without a good integration, creating a Merchant Center feed can feel like a developer job. It does not have to be. The free SeoSpidie Merchant Center feed generator crawls your store, detects product pages and builds an XML feed from what it finds.
For the rules every feed must follow, read Merchant Center feed requirements explained.
Before you start: make product pages machine-readable
The generator reads the information on your product pages. It works best when each product page clearly shows the name, price, availability and a main image, and ideally includes Product structured data. If yours does not, add it with the schema generator; it also helps Merchant Center confirm prices.
Step 1: Enter your store URL
Paste your shop's homepage or main catalogue URL. The tool crawls the site, follows links and auto-detects which pages are product pages.
Step 2: Review the detected products
Check the list. Remove anything that is not a sellable product, such as category pages, blog posts or gift cards you do not want to advertise. If products are missing, they may not be linked from anywhere crawlable; add them to category pages or your sitemap.
Step 3: Check each attribute
Look at the extracted titles, prices, availability, images and links. Watch for:
- Prices without currency, or with the wrong one.
- Titles that include site-wide text such as your shop name or "Buy now".
- Placeholder or logo images instead of the product photo.
- Out-of-stock products showing as in stock.
Add brand and GTIN where you have them. Validate barcodes first with the GTIN validator.
Step 4: Download and host the feed
Download the XML file and upload it to your website, for example https://yourshop.com/feeds/google.xml. Hosting it at a stable URL lets Merchant Center fetch it automatically.
Step 5: Validate before submitting
Run the hosted feed through the Merchant Center feed validator. It checks every product for missing required attributes and format errors, so you fix problems before Google sees them.
Step 6: Add the feed in Merchant Center
- In Merchant Center, add a product source and choose to add products from a file.
- Select a scheduled fetch and enter your feed URL.
- Choose a daily fetch time.
- Fetch now for the first time and wait for processing.
Check the Products section and diagnostics after a few hours. Expect a few warnings the first time; fix them in your site or feed and fetch again.
Keeping the feed fresh
A feed is only as good as its last update. Regenerate it whenever prices or stock change significantly, and at least whenever you add products. If you sell on several channels, the multi-channel feed generator creates Google, Facebook, Pinterest and other feeds from one crawl.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need coding skills?
No. You need to upload one file to your hosting and paste its URL into Merchant Center.
Why were some products not detected?
They may not be linked from crawlable pages, or their pages may not clearly show product information. Product structured data helps.
Will the feed update automatically?
Merchant Center fetches the file daily, but the file itself only changes when you regenerate and re-upload it.
Is the feed generator free?
Yes, with no sign-up.
