How to Check If Your Page Is Ready for Google AI Overviews

Run a free check of the signals that make a page easy for AI Overviews to quote, and fix the gaps in order of impact.

You cannot force Google to cite your page in an AI Overview. You can make sure nothing on the page stops it, and that your answers are as easy as possible to find and quote. The free SeoSpidie AI Overview optimizer checks your content's structure in one pass; a few page-level checks complete the picture.

For the strategy behind the checks, read how to optimize content for Google AI Overviews.

Step 1: Choose the right page and question

Pick a page that targets an informational question where AI Overviews appear โ€” search the question in Google and see. Note the exact question; you will judge the page against it.

Step 2: Run the check

Paste the article's HTML or plain text into the optimizer. It checks the content against the structural patterns AI Overviews tend to favour:

  • Does it open with a direct, concise answer or definition?
  • Does it include a numbered or bulleted list?
  • Does it use several headings to structure the content?
  • Are paragraphs short and scannable?
  • Does it include a specific number, statistic or figure?

Each check passes or fails, so you can see at a glance what your content is missing.

Step 3: Rule out page-level blockers

Good structure is wasted if Google cannot use the page. Check these yourself, because they live in the page's settings rather than its text:

  • Noindex or blocked by robots.txt โ€” the page cannot be used at all. Confirm with the bulk indexability checker.
  • nosnippet or a tiny max-snippet โ€” Google cannot quote the text. Remove these unless you added them deliberately.
  • Main content loaded only by user interaction โ€” such as text hidden behind "load more" buttons that require clicks. Put key answers in the initial HTML.

Step 4: Improve answer structure

Now work on how easy your answers are to lift:

  1. Under each main heading, write a direct answer in the first one or two sentences.
  2. Rephrase vague headings ("Overview", "More info") into specific ones ("How much does a website audit cost?").
  3. Turn step-by-step paragraphs into numbered lists.
  4. Put comparisons into a simple table.

The featured snippet optimizer is useful here too; the same answer formatting helps both features.

Step 5: Strengthen trust signals

Add a visible author or team name with relevant experience, an updated date when the content truly changed, and links to authoritative sources for facts. Where you have first-hand evidence โ€” your own screenshots, measurements or customer examples โ€” include it. These make the page more useful to readers and more credible as a source.

Step 6: Re-run and monitor

Paste the edited content into the optimizer again to confirm every check passes. Then request indexing in Search Console and watch the page's impressions for the target queries over the following weeks. Check the AI side more broadly with the GEO checker, which looks at how ready the page is for AI assistants beyond Google.
